Happy MLK Day everyone!
I hope everyone enjoyed their three day weekend! It’s nice being able to slow down a busy week with a day off. Today we celebrated the life of Martin Luther King and it made me think of how grateful I am for all he did. His main fight was against racism, but he fought against every kind of discrimination. How does this relate to feeling feminine you ask? I’m getting there, hold on!
There has always been conflict in regards to gender, always. There are still some that think men and women aren’t equal! Despite all the progress that has been made, these social issues are still prevalent. In response to this, many women feel the need to give up their femininity in order to be able to compete. Ditch the primping, the emotion, the vulnerability many confuse with weakness, in order to keep up with men. Look at their nature and reject it, be ashamed if it. In order to be successful, it has become widely accepted that if one tries to remain feminine that she will fail miserably. And I am here to tell you that is absolutely not the case.
Being a woman is such an honor. Gender shouldn’t be a competition or an insult. Men and women have their natural differences as they should, but that doesn’t mean they have to change who they are in order to be accepted, successful, loved, important, etc. So on days when I get to get dolled up and hang out with friends, or when my emotions and my logic help people I care about work through their problems, or when my sensitivity helps me discover that someone is in need of some TLC, I’m happy I’m a woman. When I play a pick up game of soccer or go throw my tomahawk or do some kick boxing at the gym, I’m happy I’m a woman. I have a girly side and a Tom boy side, but I will always be feminine. I’m not here to tell you you have to be a girly girl to be feminine, I’m telling you that you have to love who you inherently are and accept the differences that come with it. So, in conclusion, I highly encourage doing what makes you feel beautiful and feminine more often for this 2014. Whether that be wearing some heels and lipstick or working your butt off to achieve your goals, or both! Love who you are ladies, and always be feminine :).
